Communities and Local Government Secretary, Eric Pickles, has announced plans to disband the local government inspectorate, the Audit Commission, following the scrapping of the Comprehensive Area Assessment. Moves to sell off or convert part of the Commission's work are being explored, whilst no decision has yet been taken on the future of local government performance management.
