Enquiry into harassment of disabled people
The Equality and Human Rights Commission launched a formal inquiry on 3rd December into the harassment of disabled people and how public authorities are protecting disabled people's human rights to live free from violence and abuse. Evidence already gathered by the Commission indicates that targeted violence or hostility toward disabled people is widespread in Britain, with people with learning difficulties or mental health conditions facing particularly high levels of victimisation. At the end if the inquiry public authorities, found not to be doing enough to tackle the problem, could face legal action to force them to comply with their legal obligations. More information
