vince_cable.pngWe are delighted that Vince Cable MP will be giving the keynote speech at Urban Forum's Annual Conference 2009 - It's The Stupid Economy.  Mr Cable, who has been the voice of reason throughout the credit crisis, will speak to delegates as part of a packed programme.

The current financial crisis and recession has brought doom and gloom. There's less money to go round and more people needing help. But in every crisis there is an opportunity waiting to be grasped. We have the chance to ask some fundamental questions about how we do things and ask ‘what sort of society do we want to have in the future?'

stupid-economy-flyer-small.pngVoluntary and community groups know how to operate on a shoestring and have huge expertise and resources to tap into. If we are going to come out of recession stronger and wiser then we need to develop news ways of working that uses economics as a tool to achieve social and environmental aims.  We need ‘economics as if people mattered'.

Urban Forum's annual conference will focus on the practical steps we can take to the challenges we face.  It will include opportunities to learn from leading practitioners of successful approaches we can take to build local economies and strengthen communities.

Conference highlights will include:

  • Keynote speech from Vince Cable MP
  • Ideas marketplace and Policy Slam
  • Live research and interactive voting
  • Banking reform – alternative economics and community finance
  • Co-operative and mutual action
  • Building local economic resilience

Conference rates range from a credit cruncing £65 - £115 so what have you got to lose?
