Written evidence to the Localism Inquiry
Urban Forum joined forced with Voice4Change England to submit evidence to the Localism Inquiry highlighting three critical issues.
Firstly, the tension that needs to be resolved between the direction of policy on public service reform and localism in relation to supporting civil society and the local economy.
Secondly the need for the Government to do more to improve the democratic accountability of both decision makers and service providers.
And thirdly, the risks of an exacerbation of inequality, and role of Government in continuing to provide minimum standards and ensure the rights of minorities are protected. All three of these points are directly referred to in the report.
The CLG Select Committee sat in October 2010 and has now published its final report .
