Changes made to Planning reform proposals

The government has proposed changes to the Planning Bill to introduce a requirement for National Planning Statements (NPS) to consider climate change. The proposal, which has long been suggested by Friends of the Earth, will give a Lords Committee a key role in scrutinising NPSs and regional plans. Hazel Blears has also restated that the government's efforts to improve the efficiency of the planning system should not compromise efforts to strengthen community involvement.
