Early Day Motion calls for supermarket levy to fund third sector

Labour MP Barry Sheerman has called for a 5% tax to be levied on supermarkets' turnover to fund charities, community groups and social enterprises, in Early Day Motion. The Huddersfield MP says that the ‘monopolistic' supermarkets have a negative impact they have on communities and independent retailers that needs to be addressed.
