Government suffers Equality Bill defeat

The House of Lords has rejected government proposals to prevent religious organisations discriminating against minority groups in their employment practice. Opposition to the proposals in the Equality Bill were led by church leaders and Conservative peers. The Conservative Shadow Cohesion Minister, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, hailed the vote as a "victory for common sense".
