Planning Bill proceeds
The Planning Bill has now passed through the House of Commons. MPs have approved a new system for approving major infrastructure projects, and if approved by the Lords, future decisions will be made by a new Infrastructure Planning Commission. The decisions will be based on National Policy Statements prepared by central Government. The Bill would also introduce a new Community Infrastructure Levy on local developments, to raise money to pay for facilities needed by communities. Planning Appeals for minor development will be heard by a panel of local Councillors rather than a Planning Inspector.
